The Incredible Hulk is Not a Good Character

Super hero movies aren’t realistic. They’re practically like live action cartoons. Everyone understands that. When you go watch a super hero movie, you’re not expecting it to be an accurate representation of how things like physics work. But nevertheless, the closer you can get the movie to realism, the more believable and engaging it becomes.

Then you have the Incredible Hulk.

Aside from the fact that Mark Ruffalo just isn’t a good actor, the Incredible Hulk isn’t a good fit for a live action show. He’s too cartoony. You have a normal-sized person that suddenly turns into this huge green creature. Where did all the extra mass come from?

In addition to that, he’s practically invulnerable, can jump so high and so far he might as well be flying, and has almost unlimited power. He’s just a big cartoon.

The only version of the Hulk that was decent was the Hulk from the 80s TV show, where the Hulk was played by Lou Ferrigno. At least that Hulk was more realistic and believable.

At this point I don’t expect Disney to do anything that would help improve the quality of their movies and shows, but when it comes to Marvel at least, getting rid of the Hulk would be a step in the right direction.

As would rebooting Spider-Man with an actor that’s an actual adult instead of some tiny squeaker, but that’s another subject entirely.
