Three Things Hollywood Loves Doing

Posted on Jul 16, 2025

It seems like these days, there are three things Hollywood just can’t get away from doing, three things that they love doing.

First is terrible writing. They go out of their way to find the worst writers they can. There are plenty of good writers out there including some classic movie writers, but they don’t go for them. They actively go for the worst writers they can instead.

Second is terrible casting. Time and again they pick the worst actors they can to play the various roles. It should be obvious to anyone working in casting that they’re not choosing the right actors. The regular viewing audience can tell the actors are the wrong choice just from seeing the trailers, but I guess the movie producers are more interested in making a statement or something like that rather than making a good movie.

Then third is sticking to the source material. Whether the movie is based on a comic book, a regular novel, a TV show, or something else, Hollywood seems to find it impossible to stick to the source material. They always have to swap characters this way and that, mess with the overall storyline and structure, and essentially turn the movie into something completely different.

I suppose this must be down to their own hubris, thinking they can do a better job with the movie and the material than the original creators did, or simply wanting to make some sort of statement or point. Either way, even though Hollywood knows full well that doing such things sends movies directly to the garbage, they just can’t stop doing it.
